Daniel

DAY 1 OF 12

Daniel is unique among the characters of the Old Testament as one of the very few leading people who did not make appalling mistakes or sin badly.

He was exceptional in several ways – at the end of the book even the angel says he is ‘highly esteemed’ - Daniel 10:11 - so we’re in for a feast!

These 12 chapters bring important insights into prophecy, intercession, Biblical literature, wisdom, God’s sovereignty, courage, spiritual disciplines, godly work, being a believer in a hostile culture, overwhelming spiritual experiences, loyalty, the apocalyptic, and the future.

Yet, everything in the book of Daniel originated from a decision made in a young person's heart. Daniel resolved to draw the line and not allow the non-believing culture around him to dominate and shape his beliefs and way of life.

And that's where you and I must start.

Make it your aim to get to the heart of this book so you know it well. Become familiar with its stories, structure, history, and main points about revelation and godly living. Then you will have a good understanding of its many wonderful treasures.

As you journey through Daniel 1, pause to meditate on Daniel 1:8, and carry it with you throughout today:

‘But Daniel resolved in his heart not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself in this way’.

Q: Is there something you need to ‘draw the line on’, and abstain from? Is there something in your life where your conscience is troubling you and you sense the Holy Spirit is saying don’t go any further on this? If so, why not talk to a friend you can trust and pray about it? Then together you can be accountable for it.

About this Plan

Daniel

Through a series of dramatic visions, Daniel prophesies that ‘one like a son of man’ is coming from heaven to establish God’s kingdom on earth. The book gives penetrating insights into the prophetic lifestyle of a man in a high administrative office; an intercessor and a person of integrity, godliness, and courage. Daniel contains a feast of treasures to inspire and help us in our discipleship.
