God Freely Gives
“He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32)
If this isn't a promise in form, it most certainly is in substance. In fact, it's not just one promise, but a collection of promises. It's like a treasure chest filled with rubies, emeralds, and diamonds, each one set in a golden nugget. This question does not allow for an answer that could trouble our hearts. What could the Lord possibly deny us after gifting us Jesus? If we lack anything in heaven or on earth, He will provide, because if there were any limits, He would have held back His own Son.
What do I desire today? All I need to do is ask. I can seek earnestly, but not as if I had to pressure or coerce an unwilling gift from the Lord's hand; for He will give freely. He gave us His own Son willingly. Certainly, no one would have suggested such a gift to Him. No one would have dared to ask for it. It would have seemed too presumptuous. He freely gave His Only-begotten, and, oh my soul, can you not trust your heavenly Father to give you anything, to give you everything? Your humble prayer would have no power with the Almighty if force were required; but His love, like a spring, rises naturally and overflows to supply all your needs.
