The Importance of the Heartनमुना
Yesterday, we talked about our hearts towards God’s heart. Hopefully, you have made the conscious decision to not sin anymore, or better: to make the conscious decision to not lose sight of God’s purpose for your life. If you did so, congratulations!
Maybe you have started thinking differently about the word “sin”. Your previous associations might also say something about your image of God. A white-bearded man somewhere high up on a cloud? A close friend? Or maybe something in between, or maybe both?
It is important to be aware of the fact that your thoughts about God came into existence by experiences in life. There are so many examples of stories about absent or rejecting parents in church communities that caused a distorted image of God.
But let’s focus on the word “sin” for now. It says something about our hearts, but something about God’s heart. If sin is…:
Either intentional or unintentional - missing the purpose of God in your life.
…and we believe in a God that is good and loving, then the things He does come from a heart of goodness and love. He loves us so much that He humiliated himself to become one of us through Jesus. He even died, so that we could reconnect with our ultimate goal in life: living a life together with God.
I believe this is the core of God’s heart for you and me. From before He created the earth, and still today. God waits for people who are willing to choose with all their heart, to live a life together with Him despite their mistakes. Will your heart become God’s heart today?
No finger-pointing at mistakes, yet a fatherly disappointment. Sometimes anger, but always righteous and good. That is also what Jesus showed us Himself. 💝
