Uncommon

DAY 24 OF 40

“…so that He might sanctify her having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.”

The husband's job is to make his wife beautiful. Have you ever seen a wife who is cherished and safe in her husband? This makes for a stunning woman, not physically but spiritually. She blooms.

I have young pastors always talk to me about their wives not being sold out to their ministry, whether going overseas or starting a new project in the name of the Gospel. I quickly remind them that they chose her as their first ministry when they chose marriage. So, husbands, if your wife is not blooming in your home, it’s time to step up and do the first job you were called to do - cherish her, die for her. Your wife needs to know she is more important than fishing or golfing.

Great sex does not make a great marriage. Gifts and vacations do not make a great marriage. A great marriage is a marriage of God. A wife of God is dedicated to honoring her husband to bring about empowerment and growth in her husband. A husband of God is dedicated to cherishing and dying for his wife to bring about beauty and safety in his wife.

Maybe your marriage has “peaked” because you’re going on 45 years. Don’t settle for peaked. Maybe you think your marriage is over, but maybe it’s not too late.

Start implementing the status quo of God, not the status quo of self or the world.

Maybe you’re not married, that’s ok. This isn’t just about marriage. Remember our first verse about aligning ourselves with the lives of others.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  1. How should husbands reflect Christ in the heavenly design of marriage?
  2. How should wives reflect the Church in the heavenly design of marriage?
  3. How should we implement submission into our lives (married or unmarried)?

About this Plan

Uncommon

The purpose of this devotional is to take a deeper look into the "uncommon" living for those of us walking with Jesus. We are declared holy through Christ, so how do we walk in that holiness? How can we be set apart and walk out our holiness?
