Lent Journeyनमुना
DAY 3
My existence is a mystery
The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. Jer 31:3
On the one hand, I connect with my mortality, and on the other hand, with my immortality. As I embrace this mystery, I realize that great shifts are taking place in my inner world.
I am eternal – and that is profound! My life has no end!
I will live forever in the new heaven that is to come. Not necessarily, in the same way, I do now, but along with all my fellow Christian pilgrims, I believe that, by the grace of God, this eternal life will be forever with Him.
My life also has no beginning!
The splendor of my being eternal is more than just life after death. According to the Jewish tradition, I existed long before conception. Conception was only the beginning of my earthly life that comes to an end through my death. This is a weird thought, and like many other Christians, I do not make much of my pre-earthly existence.
This is the mystery of my existence – I am from God, living through God, and will return to God. His love stretches far beyond my earthly lifespan and thought.
Today I want to experience this greatness, feel it in my being.
EXERCISE
• As part of your prayer today, insert your name in Jeremiah 31:3: ‘I have loved you, _______________, with an everlasting love.’
• Repeat these words to yourself for a few minutes. Talk to Him about how this makes you feel. Today, live with these words and repeat them softly every time you think about it throughout the day.
