Walking In Grace: A 7-day Journey Of Beauty And Truthनमुना
“Rest Easy and Brave”
It takes courage to rest in a world that tells us to go faster and push harder because it’s a world that relegates rest into the shame-on-you categories of laziness, procrastination or distraction. Sure, you don’t want to be leaking priceless time from the seams of a stitched-tight day because you’re stuck on a Pinterest board. You want to amplify moment by full-bursting moment the hours you have so that they aren’t frenetic – just full.
But rest is part of the fullness. Even Jesus – perfect Son of God – rested. Rest was one of the first things God modeled for His children, because kids copy: “On the seventh day God had finished His work of creation, so He rested from all His work” (Genesis 2:2). He didn’t need rest. He wasn’t tired after speaking out the universe. He was making a point. Declaring something holy. He commands us to rest and if we’re going to be effective instruments of change in His hands, we’d be blessed to obey.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: “It was evening, it was morning.” The next day (Genesis 1). What would it look like for you to live a Genesis day – moving from rest into work?
PRAYER: God, make me brave enough to rest in preparation for work so that my rest is a mindful laying down of me for the coming work of God, rather than a collapsing – a petering out. Amen.
