Returning to Intimacyनमुना
What does intimacy with God look like?
On the second day of this plan, we learned Jesus’ habit of consistently praying in solitude. The foundation of a healthy relationship is intimacy and communication. As Christians, we may go about our days talking to God. Sometimes it’s on a drive, at work, at school, or even at the gym, but this isn’t true intimacy. Something we may be guilty of is believing that intimacy with God is important but not necessary. Sometimes we think that a few random minutes here and there, especially when it’s most convenient for us, are enough to be considered “close enough” with God.
The enemy will do anything to keep us from seeking intimacy with God. He doesn’t want us to pray and seek God in solitude. He knows that closeness with God brings eternal life.
In Mathew 6, Jesus specifically tells us to pray in our inner rooms, to CLOSE OUR DOORS. Why did Jesus bring up these details about prayer? Maybe there is great importance to this. In that same verse, Jesus mentions that THE FATHER IS IN SECRET. Only in secret can we truly mature and grow spiritually. This is where we really get to know Jesus and find his glory. Nobody can give you closeness with God. Even if hundreds of people were to pray over us, they can’t give us intimacy with God. This closeness is something only each individual can obtain in secret with God.
The Essence of Intimacy
One of the many lies the enemy uses to ensnare people like you and me is, “isolated prayer every day is too much, you’re being overly religious, it’s unnecessary.” The enemy will tell you God will love you regardless of spending time alone with Him. It’s a lie disguised as a truth. God’s love never changes, but if we don’t get close to Him, we can’t truly understand or experience His love. The most profound experiences of God’s love aren’t found at Christian conferences, events, or concerts, but instead in secret with God Himself. When Moses spoke to God, he was alone. When Daniel was saved from the lions, he was alone with God. John wrote the book of Revelations, he was alone with God. Solitude enables you to encounter God. Seek the presence of Our Father in secret, He awaits you there!
