Matthew 7:12 (KJV)
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
Hold others in mind
To win unbelieving family members or other individuals to Jesus Christ, we must hold them in mind by entering their world. To enter another’s world does not mean conforming to their ways. It means seeking to understand them and walking in their shoes as Jesus did for us when He walked the earth. Hebrews 4:15 (KJV) says, “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”
To hold others in mind, we must let go of self-righteousness and be non-judgemental. All of us have made mistakes, lived in deception, or lived in a state of habitual sin at some point in our lives. We must not forget that it is the saving grace of God that found us. We must not think of ourselves as better than those who do not believe. Instead, let’s consider their souls as precious to God as well (2 Peter 3:9).
Let’s be intentional about practicing Matthew 7:12.
Consider this: How would you like to be treated if you were an unbeliever? Would you appreciate someone telling you about the kind of life available in Jesus? Would you be more attracted to someone who is self-righteous or someone who acknowledges that their ability to live right is by the grace of God?
