Day One: A Prayer of Worship for God’s Personhood

Triune God,

You are magnificent in the greatness of Your person. I worship You, the Father who loved me so much that You brought me into existence and then, after my sin separated me from You, You sent Your own Son to be my Savior. And I worship You, the Son, who loved me so much that, at the Father’s direction, You rose from Heaven’s throne, took off Your glory robes, descended to earth, took on the very nature of a servant made in human likeness, and humbled Yourself, submitting to death on a cross.

Who can imagine the depths of such love? Or the heights of such love, as the Father then exalted You to the highest place so that one day, at Your name, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that You are Lord. Praise God! I can hardly wait for that day. In the meantime, thank You for not leaving me as an orphan. You have come to me in the third person of the Godhead. I worship You, the Spirit of truth, my Comforter, my Counselor, my Helper—the Holy Spirit, who is Jesus in me.

Please, dear God, I want to know You better today than I did yesterday. And better tomorrow than I know You today. I want to grow in my knowledge of You until my faith becomes sight and I know You fully, even as today You know me. My heart’s desire is that on that day You would acknowledge me as Your friend.

Beloved Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I trust Your wisdom to know exactly what to send my way to keep me leaning on You. You have said You will not give me more than I can bear. Please help me remain faithful to You, focused on You, and fired up about You, until I see You as You are and You see Yourself reflected in me.

For the glory of Your great name—Jesus,

Amen.

The Light of His Presence

Many of us long to speak to God, but we struggle to establish a habit of daily prayer. Anne Graham Lotz has found that writing out her prayers helps her focus her heart and mind, drawing her to greater intimacy with God. The five prayers in this devotional are drawn from Anne’s own prayers of worship, confession, thanksgiving, and intercession.
