Prayer is Taking with God
Nehemiah's prayer represents a more typical prayer experience, where Nehemiah doesn’t hear God speak audibly. Yet, it also shows how Nehemiah “talks things through” with God, pleading his case on a particular concern. (Nehemiah 1:4-11)
Prayer is much more than words, however. It is an expression of the heart towards God. It is an experience, a relationship, not an activity.
To further enrich your times of prayer with God, you include these elements,
- Adoration — praising and worshipping God for who He is.
- Confession — acknowledging our sins before God, thanking God that forgiveness was made available through Jesus and choosing not to commit that sin again.
- Thanksgiving — expression of gratitude to God, for the pleasant and unpleasant circumstances, knowing that He is in control over all.
- Supplication — interceding (mediating between God and specific people) and petition (asking a request from God to do something in relation to His character).
