Blessed Are The Hungry 

Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are those who crave to live a good life. This good life is only good if Jesus is at the center of it and if it impacts people around us positively. Hungering for the things of God means seeking God with all our heart and choosing to honor Him with everything we have and are. This is easier said than done since our days are filled with thoughts of work, family and even ministry. While all of these are absolutely vital, the thing that separates the blessed from others is their taking time to honor their God. They may spend time with Him alone at some point in the day, but they have developed the capability of constantly communicating with God throughout their day. 

John Piper in his book ‘A Hunger for God’ says “If you don't feel strong desires for the manifestation of the glory of God, it is not because you have drunk deeply and are satisfied. It is because you have nibbled so long at the table of the world. Your soul is stuffed with small things, and there is no room for the great.”

Is it possible for us to take time away from our phones, our Hotstar/Netflix shows and our non-stop schedules to make time for God today? 

John Piper goes on to say “The strongest, most mature Christians I have ever met are the hungriest for God. It might seem that those who eat most would be least hungry. But that’s not the way it works with an inexhaustible fountain, and an infinite feast, and a glorious Lord.”

This should move us to get hungrier for God than ever before. The more we have of Him and His Word, the more we’ll need. Jesus says that when our posture is one of hunger and thirst for Him, we will be filled- filled to overflowing. You may not realize it but others around you will sense the difference. We must drink deep of the living waters that Jesus promised and feed on God’s word. Only this will satisfy us.
