She Dreams: Live The Life You Were Created Forनमुना
As grown women, our dreams are directly affected by the experiences we had in our childhood and adolescence. Try as we might, we can’t gloss over the hard parts that directly affect the way we think, feel, and experience the world. If money was tight, if a parent or caregiver spoke harsh words, if there was something we couldn’t control but it directly influenced how we felt about ourselves, then there’s a good chance those feelings still reside within us and affect how we dream. As adults, we almost always carry our childhood and adolescent experiences and understandings of the world into the life of our dreams. We will see this in Moses’ life as well.
Three key women are mentioned when the Scriptures first introduce us to baby Moses: his mama, his sister, and his adoptive mother, Pharaoh’s daughter.
His mother, Jochebed, the woman who carried him for nine months and who, I imagine, tearfully placed her baby in a tar-covered basket among the reeds, was a woman of great strength and bravery. This dear woman hid her precious boy for three months but could no longer hide him, and by God’s grace she witnessed the divine hand of Yahweh save her son.
After we read of Moses’ mother, we read of his older sister, who followed that basket until it washed up at the feet of Pharaoh’s daughter. This brave sister approached royalty, to whom she was enslaved, and explained that she could help by calling for a Hebrew woman to nurse the baby.
Pharaoh’s daughter assumed the baby in the basket was Hebrew and appeared to have no qualms asking a Hebrew woman to nurse the sweet little boy. Keep in mind that Pharaoh’s daughter knew the decree of her father yet made arrangements for her new little man to be cared for by a Hebrew woman, who happened to be his own mother.
Like baby Moses, you and I have people in our lives who play key roles, ones that are so timely and necessary; and their compassion and kindness give us a glimpse of God’s intentions and goodness toward each of us. As we process the broken pieces of our lives, we can search our stories and often find light bearers, those willing to carry the torch of love on our behalf.
