Jesus Speaks Restoration
On the cross, Jesus restored all things. He taught us grace and it was a language that, until that moment, we did not understand. On the cross, our Lord and Savior converted into the God of second chances. His mercy is designed to take us out of the in between. His forgiveness is infinite. He has the power to lift the fallen and take their burdens of guilt and shame.
The book of John tells us that the scholars and Pharisees took a woman in adultery to Jesus. They were ready to stone her, since that was the punishment in those times. It was what she deserved for the sin she committed. But the Pharisees were also testing Jesus, expecting the right answer from Him. However, Jesus’ wisdom resulted in restoring the woman. He defended and did not condemn but forgave and gave her a second chance to start over. “Go on your way, from now on, don’t sin,” were His words of grace so that her life could be transformed.
He also forgave and restored a man named Zacchaeus, the head taxman, who used his position to steal from many. Jesus had entered to walk through Jericho and Zacchaeus desperately wanted to see Him. But there was a crowd and he was a short man, so he climbed a tree to get a better view. When Jesus walked by the tree, He called him by name and told him He would have dinner at his house. Zacchaeus was unexpectedly surprised and answered “Master, I give away half my income to the poor.” The greatest restoration is the one that changes the heart. Zacchaeus did what he never thought he would do, opposite of what he was used to doing. He demonstrated that he was a different person.
Restoration means to bring or put back into a good or original state. God has the power to restore you. There is nothing He cannot restore or forgive. All you have to do is ask, and then allow Him to perform His marvelous work in you.
