Restore: God is restoring my hope

I clearly remember my first Tearfund trip to Peru. We went into the hills and spent time with communities whose families had lived off the land for generations.

Those people knew and loved their land. But things had changed. The weather had changed.

Farmers could no longer predict rainfall and temperature, making it harder than ever to grow crops. As a result, both food and money were scarce. Their sadness was palpable, and they were losing hope.

In response, the staff from Tearfund’s local partner were hard at work. They helped those struggling most, equipping them to adapt to the changing climate.

I remember one man in particular, Jorge. He’d been taught to create irrigation channels on his land, meaning he was less reliant on weather patterns. The look on his face as the water flowed was one of pure joy. For Jorge, those water channels represented hope restored.

Father God,

I praise you for hope restored, wherever that hope is and whatever it looks like. I thank you for Tearfund partners around the world, helping people like Jorge to have hopes and dreams once more. I trust you, and place in your hands the situations in my life or community in need of restored hope. Amen.
