Just Don't Give Up! - Part 4: His CovenantЗагвар
The Only Person
“And when he gets home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my lost sheep!’” – Luke 15:6
If the earth were filled with holy people and you were the only one who needed to be saved, do you think Jesus would still have given himself up on the cross? The answer is yes. The Bible says that He wants all people to be saved, not a single one left behind (1 Timothy 2:4).
In the Bible, Jesus convicted us with the parable of the lost sheep. In the story, I imagine the shepherd was counting his sheep when he was about to bring the flock back home. It was probably near sunset when he realized there was one sheep missing. He recounted to make sure, and he was right, a sheep was lost!
As a shepherd who cares for his sheep, he would not hesitate to search, even if it takes all night, or if it puts him in danger - for the safety of the sheep matters to him.
The shepherd knew this sheep would never survive alone, so he continued his search and never gave up. When he found it, he leaped in joy, and for this lost sheep, he called everyone in his town for a celebration because the sheep that was once lost is now found and saved.
“Will God come and save me?”. “Has He forgotten me?” I asked these questions in my heart while I was in isolation when my immune system was down. The story of the lost sheep reminded me that God always counts his sheep one by one. Knowing this truth, I could rest assured that He would not leave me alone. Even when I lost my way because of my cancer, I knew my Shepherd was there to bring me back to hope. God never left; He never abandoned. Christ had given himself up on the cross so that I would be saved. Surely He will fulfill His promises in my life too. His crucifixion is an assurance of His grace and love.
If you are in trouble or if you have lost your way in your journey with God, or feel unworthy of Him, come to Him and let Him show you His longing. The shepherd had decided to put his life at risk for one lost sheep. Jesus did not only die on the Cross, but He also rose from the dead. That is the victory we have in Christ.
All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Christ (Matthew 28:18). His name is above everything, including sickness. In His name, healing takes place. What a wonderful Savior we have! In Him, we can put our trust and find the answer to all our needs, even when the world says it is impossible.
Even when I am the only person who needs to be saved, Jesus would still die for me.
