Broken Things Devotional - Matthew West

2 ДЕН ОД 5

The pages of history they tell me it’s true / That it’s never the perfect; it’s always the ones with the scars that You use / It’s the rebels and the prodigals; it’s the humble and the weak / All the misfit heroes You chose / Tell me there’s hope for sinners like me

The Bible is full of broken people. Yet, their stories are remarkable because of the ways our extraordinary God chooses to use them not because of their brokenness but in spite of their brokenness.

Abraham was old, and he often used deception to get what he wanted. Yet, God destined him to become the Father of many nations (even before he had any biological children).

Moses stammered. Speaking was not his strong point. Yet, God chose him to deliver the Ten Commandments and lead His people out of Egypt.

Joseph was a slave. His own brothers disowned him. Yet, God elevated him to a high position and used him to teach men to dream and influence earthly kings.

David wasn’t brave. He was scared and on the run. He was a murderer. Yet, God made him king and called him a man after His own heart.

Gideon was full of doubt. Yet, God transformed Him into a mighty warrior.

God still uses the foolish to shame the wise. He’s eager to turn our greatest weakness into an opportunity for others to glorify Him.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 reminds us, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

We should wear our scars proudly and boast in our brokenness. For it’s often in the midst of our weakest moments that God does His most profound work.
