Scripture
I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills — to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts...Also, I have given ability to all the skilled workers to make everything I have commanded you. Exodus 31:3-6
Summary
When God instructed Moses to build the tabernacle (God's special dwelling place), He anointed and appointed people to help fulfill that construction. God didn't just "speak the tabernacle into existence". People actually had to work. But God empowered them to work. He anointed them with everything they needed to do the task He was calling them to do. When God calls, He also equips. You may feel unqualified, but the Spirit who breathed out the galaxies lives inside of you. He is the one who will give you the artistry, the skill, the wisdom, and the knowledge to build His temple...to build His house of praise. Every week you stand on stage, you are using God-given artistry to build a tabernacle of praise...where the Lord Himself dwells (see Psalm 22:3).
Discussion Questions
1. In your own words, what does it mean to be anointed and appointed?
2. Why do you think God wants us to join Him in His work (instead of doing it himself)?
3. What is one thing that spoke to you most in this devo?
4. Any other thoughts, comments, ideas or questions you'd like to share?
Closing Prayer
God, thank you that you have called us to build you a temple of praise every week. Thank you that where two or three are gathered, you are there in our midst. Lord God, thank you that even in our working, YOU are the one who is working through us. Fill us. Anoint us. Use us. We have no power outside of you, Holy Spirit. Take our skills and multiply them. Increase our artistry, and may YOU be the one who gets the glory. In Jesus' name. Amen.
