Debt-Freedom: What the Bible Says About Debt

1 ДЕН ОД 3

What Does the Bible Say About Debt?

The most prominent statement about debt in the Bible comes from Proverbs 22:7, which says "the borrower is slave to the lender”. When you are in debt to another, you enter into a slave/master relationship with your creditor.

No one wants to be indebted as a slave to another, but when we enter into debt, that is exactly what we’re doing. The good news is that God has something better for us.

God actually wants us to lend to others (Deuteronomy 15:6, 28:12, Matthew 5:42).

Obviously, this is difficult if you don’t have anything to lend. But as Christians, we are to be God’s hands and feet here on earth. This also includes helping out financially when we can to others in need, whether we do so in the form of a loan or as a gift. God has entrusted us to be good stewards of what He has given us.

We are called to have only Him as our master. So when He calls, we can ignore all others and obey what He wants us to do.

This can seem discouraging if you are already in debt, whether by choice or not, but God is so much bigger than our mistakes and circumstances. And, better yet, He is looking for opportunities to help us!

As you move forward, allow God to enlighten the eyes of your understanding so you can see what He has for you.

Let’s pray:

Lord, as I begin to learn what you have to say about debt, I ask that you would be with me and help me through the process. Help me to be diligent to take the natural steps while you do the supernatural in my finances.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
