Day 5: The Realization

In the last reading,  we saw the prodigal at the end of his rope, impoverished, and tending to pigs. He learned that the lights of the far country were not as bright as he'd hoped. Everything he thought would bring him happiness had actually produced pain and misery he never could’ve imagined. The prodigal had a wake up called and realized he should’ve never left his father in the first place.

If you are a follower of Jesus walking in sin, there will always be a moment when you realize you are living in disobedience. Philippians tells us God finished what He starts. God simply cares too much about you and the work He’s doing in your life to let sin continue to rule in your heart and live. Like the prodigal, you will eventually come to the realization that sin is not working for you. This realization is the first step on our journey back to the father.

If you know Jesus and are wandering in the far off country of sin, the good news is that you will always come to your senses. God cares too much about His work in your life to let you continue in sin. When we are tempted to sin, the Spirit of God convicts and urges us towards reconciliation with our Father.

If you are a being tempted by sin right now, hear this clearly: sin is a monumental waste of your time. Believe this now before you take the step into sin. If you are currently walking in sin, flee. Turn around and go back to your Father. He is waiting for you.

Consider these questions: How is sin a monumental waste of time? When have you discovered this in your own life?

The Prodigal Son by Matt Carter

We’ve all wondered, is Christianity worth it? If we go all-in following Jesus, are we are missing out? But what makes us ask these questions? Why are we so tempted by a life outside of God’s will? Jesus addressed these questions through the parable of the prodigal son. Pastor Matt Carter walks through the parable, showing that true life is always found in the love of our Father.
