Maliseet

The Maliseet (Skicinuwatu) or Maliseet-Passamaquoddy language is spoke by the Maliseet people of New Brunswick in Canada and Maine in the USA.

Selections

In 1863 the Micmac Mission at Halifax, Nova Scotia, published a selection of Scripture extracts, translated into Maliseet by Silas Tertius Rand, and printed in phonetic character by Isaac Pitman at Bath, England.

Gospel of John 1870

Later S.T. Rand later prepared the whole of St. John's Gospel (Wĭkheegŭn) with the assistance of a native speaker called Gabriel Thomas. This Gospel of John (Wĭkheegŭn) was published as "The Gospel According to St John in the Language of the Malliseet Indians of New Brunswick". It was published by the British and Foreign Bible Society in London in 1870.

Gospel of John 2014

An updated edition of the 1870 edition John (Wikhikən) was produced which updated the spelling into modern orthography, for the Canadian Bible Society in 2014. It was published as part of a four-language edition of The Gospel According to St. John in the languages spoken in New Brunswick: Maliseet, English, French and Mi’kmaq.
