Life Experiences: Lessons From the Book of Luke

4 DIENA NO 10

What is greater than loving and honoring your Family?

One day Jesus called two people to become His followers. Yet these potential disciples became concern about each of their own families, they told Him that they would like to attend to the immediate needs of their families before they fully work with Him.

Those were legitimate concerns. Loving their families was right. Giving respect to members of their families was very important. Those were great values! Yet Jesus told the one whose father died, 'Let the dead people bury their dead...' To the one who would like to say farewell to his family He said, 'If you look back, you are not fit for God's service.'

Jesus isn't disrespectful of families yet in this story He is teaching us to give importance to things that are really important. He would like us to prioritize on matters that are eternal than on those things that are temporal.

Telling the first man, ‘let the dead people bury their own dead,’ He was just saying, we maybe valuing certain thing on this earth yet in God's eyes that thing has no value at all, they are dead!

And Jesus replying to the man who would like to say farewell to his family, ‘when you plow don't look back,’ He was telling us to focus on God's service than the responsibilities or work we think are essential for our daily concerns.

Prayer for Today: God in heaven, there are many things that I put priority on the here and now, yet today You are telling me to be concern first and foremost on things that are more important and that I should prioritize your concerns not my concerns.

I maybe valuing items that are nothing to You...so please impress to me what are Your priorities and what do You value more. In Jesus name...
