3 DIENA NO 7

The Work Of God

Sounds simple enough, right? The ‘work’ of the new covenant is simply to believe God and Him whom He has sent, namely Jesus. However, it’s not always that easy. Believing is not just saying that you believe. Believing is a heart issue, and so God looks down into our hearts where the believing is actually done. This is the work we must do ourselves. God won’t do it for us, and others cannot do it for us.

Further on in chapter 6 of John’s passage, after Jesus tells them that the work of God is to believe, they ask, ‘Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform?’ (v30). They wanted God to do it for them so that they could easily have faith. They wanted God to do the work. They wanted to see so they could believe! And people think that way today – but Jesus said it was our work. Our work in God is to get to a place of faith in Him. Believing is taking that faith and doing something with it. Only we can choose to throw our legs over the side of the boat and step out. Believing is faith in action. It takes effort to get to a place of believing, and it takes effort to act according to that belief.

If God tells us that we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us (as referenced in Romans 8:37), we must receive it, believe it, and then walk accordingly.
