Boasting in the CrossParaugs
The Message of the Cross
The cross is not merely an ornament used to represent Jesus' crucifixion or suffering, nor is it akin to the various types and designs of crosses sold in ancient times for spiritual renewal.
The story of the cross is one of Christ shedding His blood for the salvation of our souls. When you gaze upon the cross, you grasp the depth and breadth of God's unconditional love for us. As believers, it's essential to take time to reflect on the cross and comprehend its message: 'the power of God.'
Apostle Paul fully grasped the sufficiency of the cross of Christ, he said, 'For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God'. 1 Corinthians 1:18.
The men in Corinth were resistant to accepting the truth, particularly the message of the cross. For them, embracing the gospel proved to be a challenging task. Understanding that God would take human form, enter this world, live among us, die for human sins, and rise on the third day was a difficult concept to grasp. In Paul's time, the Corinthians clung to their philosophical beliefs even after hearing the gospel.
We encounter a similar scenario today: some people consider God's wisdom and sovereignty to be foolishness, while they believe their own wisdom is sufficient to disprove the gospel, which is, in fact, quite foolish.
No amount of worldly knowledge or philosophy can compare to the profound message of the cross. It stands alone, unparalleled in its significance. In the message of the cross, we witness the power of God, flowing to save a wretched soul and the boundless, unconditional love that flows to forgive a person's sins.
Prayer:
Dear Father, I thank you for your saving grace and for sacrificing yourself on the cross for me. I love you, Lord. Amen.
