Real Hope: Jesus' Life & MinistryParaugs
The Word Became Flesh
I’ve often wondered what it would have been like to walk with Jesus when He took on human form. To sit at His feet and listen to Him share the parables. To be one of the 5,000 who were fed by Him. To see Him raise Lazarus to life. I imagine the awe and wonder I would have felt sharing a meal with Him and seeing His ministry firsthand. But as I ponder these thoughts, the Holy Spirit gently reminds me that, through the Bible, I have a beautiful bird’s eye view of Jesus’ life and ministry. When I read the Bible, I can read it with a greater sense of hope because I know how the story ends. When we read the story of His crucifixion, we have hope in the heartache because, unlike the people of His day, we know that Sunday is coming. When we sit at His feet in worship, our hearts have a deeper sense of awe and gratitude because our knowledge is not confined to one event, but to all the amazing things He did. And what’s more, He set the example for us to follow and continue His ministry in His name and for His glory.
How thoughtful and loving of God to ensure that thousands of years later, millions of people would still be able to read about Jesus’ life. That He would make sure there were instructions and examples for us to follow in His footsteps. And how privileged are we that we can access it freely. Jesus may not be walking the earth in human form, but He has not left us to wander alone. Through His Word and the Holy Spirit, we can live our lives in spirit and in truth, declaring His majesty and goodness.
