A Biblical Life Hack to Make Giving Easier (& More Fun)Paraugs
So today, let’s get into this Biblical life hack that is embedded in 2 Corinthians 9:7, which states, “Each one must do just as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” One translation intriguingly puts it as “God loves hilarious generosity.”
This scripture is not about pressurizing yourself to give. Rather, it is about the joy and contentment that can be derived from it. But how can we go from reluctant giving to hilarious generosity?
Well, I believe the secret can be found in Paul’s earlier letter to the Corinthians.
In 1 Corinthians 16:2, Paul advises setting aside a sum of money at the beginning of each week. This money should be kept in a safe place so that when the time to give comes, you are prepared and ready to give.
So when Paul was writing that 2nd letter and the instruction in 2 Corinthians 9:7, he was operating under the assumption that they had read his instructions on giving in 1 Corinthians 16:2.
The reason this is such a powerful life hack is because by allocating funds at the beginning of the month, you are essentially placing the money for safekeeping. When it’s time to give or when an opportunity arises that resonates with your heart, the funds are already set aside and waiting. This reduces the stress of impulsive giving or reluctance due to other financial commitments.
What's more, the money in the separate account feels like it’s already designated for a higher purpose, and you are simply a steward. It psychologically changes the way you approach giving, making it much more joyful and stress-free.
Tomorrow we will look at how to do this practically in the modern world.
