Rebuild 5-Day Reading PlanParaugs
The Great Reset
The past few years have been a steady stream of destruction and deconstruction. The pandemic sparked multiple crises at the same time. They say crisis is an accelerator. It isn’t hard to see that our world’s brokenness has multiplied. We all have wondered what is going to happen next.
I’m shouting from the rooftops—It’s time to Rebuild! Most of us had some unhealthy things happening in our lives, and the pandemic gave us a chance to reset. Some of us are thriving as we reinvented ourselves, started new businesses, made career changes, and reconstructed our faith in healthy ways. Others may feel like they missed out on their restart, but I’m here to tell you that now is the time!
A few years back the church I lead took on a huge project of rebuilding an old Toys R’ Us store in the heart of the urban community. Sounds difficult, but when you add that we did this right in the middle of a recession, it seemed virtually impossible. We soon found ourselves in way over our heads. It was beyond our experience, our wisdom, and our resources. But sometimes that is exactly where God wants you. That’s when he gets our full attention.
Just like my church family, Nehemiah and his people had some haters. They told him it was impossible to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, but he did it in just fifty-two days. I love Nehemiah’s story! It’s full of compassion, risk, and miracles. I think we especially love it because it happened fast. In just fifty-two days they did it. But, hold up! It started many months before the actual fifty-two days, and the ongoing spiritual rebuilding lasted for years after the builders topped the walls. So this rebuilding work in your life will take some time.
The thing that especially excites me about Nehemiah’s story is that he didn’t have the experience to lead, yet God used him. When God rebuilds us, he calls all of us to lead. Rebuilding will stretch you. It can wreck you or make you stronger. The past few years of my life have been the most difficult, but most rewarding season yet. If you are ready to experience a reset, then pick up your hammer and your sword, and let’s go to work this week!
Rebuilding Blocks for Today:
- What are some things that got reset in your life in the past few years? Were they positive or negative?
- What are some things you need to reset in this next season?
