Healer: A 7-Day Devotional With Casting CrownsParaugs
We were all hurting. It was the middle of 2020. The global Covid pandemic raged, the politics around it raged even hotter, and the Presidential election campaigns raged hottest of all. I remember seeing all the hurt around me, all the hurt in my family. I remember the hurt in me. We were locked down in our houses and being lied to about what everybody else was thinking because we all counted on the tiny screens in our hands to give us the world’s versions of truth. We had invisible enemies in our heads. Instead of discussions with people, we threw words at other words, and it got ugly on every end. It all seemed so hurtful. On top of that, we all felt alone. It all seemed so dark. I remember thinking that no new President on earth could fix this.
But a lot of people acted like they thought otherwise. We all had our own ideas on what our country and our world needed. Not having police anymore was going to fix it. Not having government anymore was going to fix it. People getting to do whatever they want through whatever lifestyle they want was going to fix it. If we just took away all the rules, then that would fix it. If we throw away everything we can that even resembles a God telling us what to do, the freedom itself is going to fix it. Yet none of the ideas helped. None of it is helping now.
In the middle of all the mayhem, as I walked through the struggles in my own heart and head, I started writing the lyrics to a song called Healer. I had to remind myself of one bedrock truth that no circumstance can sway.
There’s no hurt that my Jesus can’t heal.
Out poured thoughts that bubbled over into several songs. It’s like the Lord put to music what he wanted me to personally hear first. I was reminded that we’re here to comfort others with the comfort with which we’ve been comforted. I can see in the hurt in others because I’ve had the same hurt in me. Here’s today’s comfort: You don’t have to hide in your pain, because we’ve all been hurt. And, dear friend, healing doesn’t come from hiding.
God’s Word offers the best form of comfort: God loves you and is not swayed by these troubled times. As He says in 1 John, little children, love one another.
