They Could NotParaugs
THEY NAILED HIM TO THE CROSS BUT THEY COULD NOT STOP HIM FROM SAVING THE LOST.
Today, we are going to be studying the second and third sayings of our Lord Jesus on the cross.
#2 Saying:
Luke 23: 43 Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise”
Now, one of the criminals who hung there threw insults at Jesus while the other one begged for mercy. He said to the other criminal, don’t you fear God, we are punished justly but this man has done nothing wrong. Oh! what a conviction of a dying criminal!
Note these friends, it was not the last opportunity for the criminal to be saved but his first opportunity to be saved. The gift of salvation offered to this criminal on the cross.
What is the bottom line? Good deeds?
No, a true penitent heart that says, ‘God, I have sinned, have mercy on me!’ Then we are saved from eternal wrath. Jesus is our Savior!
This criminal had a privilege of dying next to a Savior but what is more promising is that he will see his Savior on the other side.
#3 Saying:
John 19: 26-27 He said to his mother, Dear woman, here is your son and to the disciple, here is your mother’
Jesus may be a criminal before the law but before Mary, Jesus was her son. Jesus’ love for her mother was seen here at the cross. He thought about the future of her mother and fulfilled his earthly duties. What love!
The longest proven will was that of Mrs. Frederica Evelyn Stilwell Cook on 2 November 1925. The will had 95,940 words in four bound volumes.
Jesus did not have earthly possessions. He said, Dear woman, here is your son and to the disciple, here is your mother’. This is what He has given to all of us, “John 14: 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Even at the dying moment, He thought about others. What love!
Take away:
Jesus cares for you my friend. Go to him!
THEY NAILED HIM TO THE CROSS BUT ‘THEY COULD NOT’ STOP HIM FROM SAVING THE LOST.
