The Invitation to Find Lasting Satisfaction

Centuries before Jesus’ bold proclamation that He is the Bread of Life, David dared his listeners to “taste and see that the Lord is good.” This food imagery carries through the passage of time, revealing that those who feast on God discover what truly satisfies the deepest part of their souls.

Like David, Moses stood in front of the Israelites before they entered the Promised Land and issued a similar charge, inviting them to experience the full life that comes from listening to God and clinging to Him.

God Himself invites us to feast on Him, abandoning the distractions that promise satisfaction but ultimately leave us empty and wanting more. “Eat what is good,” He urges, “and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.”

So how exactly can we 21st-century believers feast on God?

“The heart cannot love what the mind does not know” (Jen Wilkin). God reveals Himself in Scripture, so we feast on Him by filling ourselves with His Word, meditating on His Truth, and seeking the stillness of His presence.

We study Scripture to know God better and love Him more deeply. He is our victory. He is our prize. We look for Him on every page and run to Him with every verse. Our hearts cry out for more of Him in our lives, and He satisfies us with more of His presence. Because those who seek Him will find Him when we seek Him with all our hearts.

This deepening relationship with Jesus is the only thing that will truly satisfy, and feasting on Him will far outlast the most delicious meal.

So the Spirit says “Come,” and those of us who have tasted His goodness also bid others “Come.” Let all those who are hungry and thirsty come and take the free gift of the full life in Jesus.

Reflection Question: What is one practical way you can turn from the distractions in your life (whether it’s comfort food or obsessing over every morsel) and feast on God?
