Jezebel

You may have heard of a woman having the "Spirit of Jezebel," and wondered, “what does that mean exactly?” As we read and study Jezebel, we see she was a woman driven by evil and selfish desires. She was a pagan woman who worshipped Baal and convinced her husband to do the same.

Scriptural accounts of Jezebel demonstrate she would stop at nothing to do what pleased her. In 1 Kings 21, she told her husband she would give him the vineyard of Naboth. She then conspired to have Naboth murdered so Ahab could have the vineyard. She was so focused on her husband's happiness that she didn't care who was hurt in the process.

The "Spirit of Jezebel" is not something to be desired. Unfortunately, someone with this mentality could use religion as a sheep's costume, open prayer as a means of gossip and rumor, and infect others with her ability to manipulate and negotiate.

It is essential for believing women to continually check the alignment of our hearts with the Lord, and allow Him to guide and direct our paths. We do not want to resemble Jezebel in any way, shape, or form.

1. Do I have any attributes that resemble Jezebel in my life?

2. What am I doing to keep my thoughts and actions purely focused on the Lord?

Prayer: Pray aloud Psalm 51.
