BOAST IN WEAKNESS

Love . . . does not boast, it is not proud. I CORINTHIANS 13:4

One of the strongest temptations everyone faces is to say the words “I told you so.” Even thinking them can get us into trouble. That’s because, for someone who was just proved wrong, those words pour salt on an open wound. When we’re proven right at the end of a disagreement, it can feel like we’ve chalked up yet another conquest of ego‑building accomplishments that rings the bell on our pride‑o‑meter. It makes us feel good, yet at the expense of someone else’s pain and humility. And God clearly says that love is not proud—of anything. If we are to boast about anything, it is our weaknesses (see II Corinthians 11:30). They are gifts from God to keep us humble and our hearts soft toward one another, which is in line with the character of Christ.

Lord, give me a heart that embraces the reality that I am nothing without You. Who am I that You have even brought me this far (see II Samuel 7:18)? As I boast in my weakness, help me to elevate my wife when I’m with her so she will know without a doubt how proud I am of her. Help me to be quick to highlight her positive and lovely traits above anything I have done. Let her know that she is part of God’s plan for my life. Help me to resist any temptation to say or do anything that would cause her anguish or hurt because my pride got in the way. I want her to flourish in all the ways You created her to be. I LOVE YOU, LORD. AMEN.
