Find Your Identity

Fear stems out of a place of uncertainty. When we are not in-the-know, we begin to doubt things and then end up fearing the worst. This can be applied to a whole host of things, but one particular aspect matters the most here, and that is our identity. In a world that constantly changes, it has become ever-so-easy to drift with the tide and forget who we are in Christ. This calls for us to make an earnest effort on our end to remain rooted in our identity in Christ because everything else will simply fall short of satisfaction and leave us wanting.

Find your identity in Christ. When you understand that you are a child of God, who is under His care and protection and presence forever, since He promises to never leave nor forsake, then you will not be carnally afraid. Trying to find your identity in this world is like a ship throwing its anchor onto another ship for stability. We need to anchor ourselves onto the rock that is Jesus. He is the only constant in the chaos of life.

Every time God was about to do or say something great, He started off with ‘Fear not!’ because He knew that fear would be the obvious reaction; be it Abraham, Israel, or even the shepherds at Jesus’ birth. In the same way, hear His voice shouting ‘fear not!’ over you today, and take courage that you are born of God, who is Love, and that Love dispels fear at its’ root.

Reflection

Take a moment to thank the Father for adopting you into His family. Ask Him to remind you of what it means to be found ‘in Christ’, what you mean to Him, and what He has done for you. Thank God for this identity and ask Him to help you stay rooted in it no matter what the world may say.
