Biblical Repentance: Finding Forgiveness and PeacePavyzdys
Is repentance the same thing as working to earn my salvation?
Repentance is not a work we do to earn salvation. No one can repent and come to God unless God pulls that person to Himself. Repentance is something God gives—it is only possible because of His grace. No one can repent unless God grants repentance. All of salvation, including repentance and faith, results from God drawing us, opening our eyes, and changing our hearts. God’s long-suffering leads us to repentance, as does His kindness.
While repentance is not a work that earns salvation, repentance unto salvation results in works. These works are a natural outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our lives. It is impossible to truly change your mind without causing a change in action. In the Bible, repentance results in a behavior change. That is why John the Baptist called people to “produce fruit in keeping with repentance.” A person who has genuinely repented his sin and exercised faith in Christ will give evidence of a changed life.
Heavenly Father, please draw me unto You. Father, change me from the inside out and give me the heart to please and honor you in ALL things. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
