Home Discipleship RestartPavyzdys
Time and seasons. They both steadily march on, never changing, always consistent, and firmly reliable. In the first chapter of Genesis, God created the day and night, the seasons, and the routines that mark our journeys and days. The steady heartbeat of time marching forward provides a sense of comfortable security and unchanging rhythm. Similarly, the home of Eden was marked by sunrises, sunsets, and God’s constant nature. Adam and Eve safely trusted in that routine and the One who put it in place. Our homes are no different. When God is the center of our family and our home discipleship, we move to His steady, consistent rhythm. While no day is consistently the same, we must set the routine of home discipleship.
Whatever our home routine, we must ensure that God is the reason for everything we do. Some of us are scheduled parents with strict bedtimes and predictable days. The word routine resonates deep within our hearts. Some of us are a little more adventurous and go with the ebb and flow needed in parenting. Days are more flexible, and routines are more organic. In whatever way God has designed you to parent, God is and must be the purpose of our practices, our days, and our seasons. Here’s the thing- God is evident in both predictability and spontaneity! No matter how your home discipleship flows, when it is centered in an unchanging God, HE will transform our homes to be more like Him. Home discipleship is getting our family rhythm in tune with His heartbeat.
What is so beautiful about routine, whatever our way may look like, is that it shows the unchanging nature of an unchanging God. When we experience His love and presence in everything we do, we love and know Him more. When we mark our days and seasons remembering His faithfulness, our trust in Him is established. Our children learn the steady nature of God. They see that He can be trusted and that His promises are secure. Most importantly, they know to hear and feel the steady heartbeat of a Father who loves them dearly and to follow where that steady rhythm leads them.
So read the Bible together daily. Pray together routinely. Worship in all circumstances. Become aware of His presence in every moment every situation. Let your trust in God be the steady, unchanging routine that establishes the foundation of faith that our children can rely upon always.
