Spiritual Self-Care in Times of Trauma, Stress, and Loss

Saturate Yourself with Scripture

Need a boost for your faith right now? God’s Word is powerful. Supernatural! The more our mind is on His promises and His truth, the more clearly things come into perspective and the easier it is to go on.

But to activate it, we have to soak it up. Not just gloss over it. Or as I tend to do, I think, “Oh, I know this one” and quickly skim over it.  Then the verse stays only in my head… and never makes it into my heart.

Some people can spend hours reading Scripture, and others, like myself, can’t sit still that long. Everyone is unique. The key is to get the Bible into our minds and hearts, then ruminate on it not only ALL through the day, but also during those annoying wakeful moments at night (which you may surprisingly find are some of your most precious times with the Lord).

I encourage you to choose one verse or passage every morning to think about during the day. Write it down or put it somewhere where you will see it often. Ask the Lord to speak to you through his Spirit, strengthen your faith, and bring you new blessings and insights that will transform you today.
