What If There Is No Tomorrow?

It is interesting that death, the most universal of all human experiences, is also the most mysterious one. Different religions and cultures have different concepts about death and what happens after. Different doctors and healers have differing theories when it comes to extending life expectancy.

But almost everyone agrees on two things. One: everybody dies. And two: nobody really knows when death comes knocking. So what if there is no tomorrow? What if today is all we have?

In this passage, Jesus is warning us to trust God, and God alone, to provide for us. Do not fall into the world’s temptation to trust in our power, connection, and wealth. Like everything else, wealth is temporary. We cannot trust our life here and the life after to something as temporary as wealth. We need to trust in something more eternal—something divine. We can only trust God.

And this is the warning: if you trust God then you cannot trust anything else. You cannot put one foot on God’s side and another foot on the other side. If we say God is Lord, then we follow him all the way. We trust him with everything, including our future.

So if God is taking care of everything today and the rest of our days, why should we worry about tomorrow? The same God back then is the same God right now, tomorrow, and forevermore.

So let’s not behave like those who do not know Jesus—the ones who still worry about little things. We know that God has everything in his hand. So let us not worry of these little things. Instead, let’s focus on following Jesus today.

Too many people wait to start living for Jesus “when I’m done with my studies". "When my children are all grown up.” “When I have the time…”

Well, what if there is no tomorrow? Shouldn't we focus on the things that matter? If there’s no tomorrow, we should focus on following Jesus today.
