Play Each Quarter

Day Five– Do Overs

After each game, a team gathers and the coach debriefs his players. There is more time spent reviewing what went wrong than what was done right. It is expected that players carry out the strategy and game plan that was given to them during the last game. But players also need and get a pat on the back because of good plays.

This gathering time is also a reminder that coaches have to evaluate whether they are helping their players see what might be missing in their performance. It is not about punishing or shaming a player, but constructively helping him to do better in the next game. So, good communication and a feeling of acceptance are required between the coach and player so the player can be prepared for the next game.

It is the same with God and His men. Everyday we enter a new game of life, and we do some good things and some bad things that day. That might be the case for you the previous days of this week, or even life. Good and bad. If we ask Him, God will forgive our bad, and He will coach us up to do better for our next days. He doesn’t hold those bad plays against us. He removes our sins as far as the east is from the west, and we need to know this.

To know this we need to know Him better. Unfortunately we do not know Him, as we should. For example, most of the time our conversation with God is laced with feelings of guilt that we messed up in some way, and we feel God is upset or disappointed with us. But God expects us to mess up, and we must not approach Him feeling that we have lost our place in the game. Repent of what you think you did wrong, take His forgiveness and allow Him to coach you up for the next game day. It is as simple as that.

God is a God of Grace. He receives you fully. He restores you fully. And He tells us that He has removed our guilt so we are to press on. In other words He says to you, “That was the last game. Let’s get you ready for the next game.” What a Coach you have with Jesus. Listen to Him and He will make you a great player.
