내가 길을 가거나 누워 있거나, 주님께서는 다 살피고 계시니, 내 모든 행실을 다 알고 계십니다. 내가 혀를 놀려 아무 말 하지 않아도 주님께서는 내가 하려는 말을 이미 다 알고 계십니다. 주님께서 나의 앞뒤를 두루 감싸 주시고, 내게 주님의 손을 얹어 주셨습니다. 이 깨달음이 내게는 너무 놀랍고 너무 높아서, 내가 감히 측량할 수조차 없습니다. 내가 주님의 영을 피해서 어디로 가며, 주님의 얼굴을 피해서 어디로 도망치겠습니까? 내가 하늘로 올라가더라도 주님께서는 거기에 계시고, 스올 에다 자리를 펴더라도 주님은 거기에도 계십니다. 내가 저 동녘 너머로 날아가거나, 바다 끝 서쪽으로 가서 거기에 머무를지라도, 거기에서도 주님의 손이 나를 인도하여 주시고, 주님의 오른손이 나를 힘있게 붙들어 주십니다. 내가 말하기를 “아, 어둠이 와락 나에게 달려들어서, 나를 비추던 빛이 밤처럼 되어라” 해도, 주님 앞에서는 어둠도 어둠이 아니며, 밤도 대낮처럼 밝으니, 주님 앞에서는 어둠과 빛이 다 같습니다. 주님께서 내 장기를 창조하시고, 내 모태에서 나를 짜 맞추셨습니다. 내가 이렇게 빚어진 것이 오묘하고 주님께서 하신 일이 놀라워, 이 모든 일로 내가 주님께 감사를 드립니다. 내 영혼은 이 사실을 너무도 잘 압니다. 은밀한 곳에서 나를 지으셨고, 땅 속 깊은 곳 같은 저 모태에서 나를 조립하셨으니 내 뼈 하나하나도, 주님 앞에서는 숨길 수 없습니다. 나의 형질이 갖추어지기도 전부터, 주님께서는 나를 보고 계셨으며, 나에게 정하여진 날들이 아직 시작되기도 전에 이미 주님의 책에 다 기록되었습니다.
