The World Needs Healing - Disciple Makers Series #10

DAY 1 OF 6

New Wine in New Wineskins

This is my favorite parable about life.

God has used this parable to release so much blessing in my life.  This is because it talks about letting God release new things into us.  Too often we are comfortable with the things God has given us.  God has life for us that is much greater – much more exciting and challenging – than anything we have done or can imagine.

It is summed in this parable – we need new wineskins because God has new wine for us.  Our mindsets cannot contain what God wants to do in and through us.  It means letting go of what I feel comfortable with, what I can understand and do well, what I want to do – and letting God lead me into a whole new world of experiences.  It is easy to think we are in that world right now – that is what these people thought.  Jesus is telling them otherwise.  He is saying, “What I am bringing cannot be contained in your thinking right now”.  Let His word open up God’s heart to us in ways that we have never seen.

The sad thing about this story?  These people never did.

Time to Pray

Father, I know that there are still doors that You want to open up for me that I do not imagine.  I know that the stretching I have done to follow you – that is not finished.  Sometimes I am tired of the stretching – I just want to enjoy the things I have learned.  You just smile at me and draw me into Your Word – and blow everything up again!!!  So today as I look at Your Word, open my eyes to the things I need to see.  Give me the strength I need to take hold of it and never let it go.  Give me heart to walk in Your great and awesome plan.  In Jesus’ name I pray Amen.

About this Plan

The World Needs Healing - Disciple Makers Series #10

Matthew writes to God’s people and walks them on a journey that will take them from where they are to be Disciple Makers.  This is the tenth of 27 devotional plans walking us through the book of Matthew.  Jesus shows His disciples how to reach out to a broken world – their world.  Then He sends them out to touch it with the Kingdom truths they have learned.
