God Help Me Raise Thankful Kidsಮಾದರಿ
The Perfect Gift
How would you react if God walked up to you and handed you a gift? I think we would all fall on our faces before Him in worship and thankfulness.
In James 1:17, which we read today, we learn that every good and perfect gift is from Him. He is completely worthy of our worship and thanksgiving. We can credit Him with everything good. When we are thankful, our focus moves from our selfish desires and refocuses us on our great God who is in control. It reminds us of the bigger picture. We have abundant life and innumerable blessings!
Take a moment to think of times when you and your kids are least grateful. Is it in times of busyness or anxiety? Stress can be one of the greatest deterrents to a thankful heart. It is in these circumstances that we need to take a deep breath and be intentional about our gratitude.
Perhaps you’re least grateful when life’s circumstances are heavy on your heart. At Compassion, we often see children who are in desperate circumstances. Yet many of them are so thankful for the little things. Check out what these children think of when asked about their blessings.
Suggested Prayer:
Heavenly Father, when I am least thankful, provide me with a grateful heart. When I am busy and anxious, calm me so that I can refocus on the truth of Your Word. May a habit of thanksgiving be always on my heart.
Activity Idea:
- Set aside time today to write a thank you note. Show your children how to do it and have them write one of their own. It may be a note to their bus driver, their pastor, or someone else who helps them.
