God's Gifts Through the Church: Holy Communion
There are plenty of religious philosophies in the world. Some are ancient, some new. What distinguishes Christianity from them all is that it centers on Christ, God who became man for us. Christianity is not just a set of thoughts but a direct encounter with God himself, especially through the sacred meal that we call Holy Communion.
In the Supper we physically meet and become one with the crucified and risen Lord. Jesus said, “Take and eat; this is my body. . . . This is my blood of the covenant” (Matthew 26:26,28). When you receive Communion, you literally become part of Christ and he a part of you. You take into your own body the very price of your salvation: Christ’s body once nailed to a cross, Christ’s blood once poured from his head, hands, and feet.
Holy Communion is offered freely to you, though it came at frightful cost to Christ. This intensely personal meal guarantees to you how serious God is about having you close to him forever. I hope you enjoy sitting at God’s table. Feel the love. Bask in it.
