God's People Gifts: Spouse
It is amazing how quickly the joy and tenderness of newlyweds can morph into irritability and withdrawal. Can discontented wives learn from the painful sighs of widows? Can disappointed husbands learn from Proverbs 18:22, “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD.”
It is good to be married. A decent husband provides strength and security so that his wife’s creativity and emotion can soar. A decent wife provides respect, so that her husband will know that there is always one place for sure where he is treated like a man.
“It is not good for the man to be alone,” God said once. For that matter, not for the woman either. The single life has adventure and independence, as St. Paul showed us. But a dear spouse is a sign of God’s favor, a precious gift uniquely good. Imagine the possibilities for crabby marriages if today--for just an hour today--husbands and wives would treat each other as precious gifts from God.
