Celebrate Recovery Devotional

DAY 10 OF 14

No One Walks Alone

Last week, I took two of my grandsons to an indoor playground at the local recreation center. Very exciting! I noticed something interesting, though. Even though they didn’t know a single kid there and would probably never see these kids again, they started right away to make friends by being friendly in a number of little ways.

They would suggest a race to the slide but look back to make sure they weren’t getting too far ahead of their new friend. If they were, they’d slow down and allow the other kid to catch up. If one of the kids got hurt, they would stop what they were doing and gather round to show their support. In other words, they did what friends do, and they did it instinctively.

We will all meet people this week—at church, meetings, school functions, sporting events, etc. All around us there are people who are hurting to one degree or another and are looking for hope. Maybe they just need a kind word or a smiling face or a show of concern—those little signs of friendliness. Sometimes we even have a chance to share what God has done in our lives. Let’s be ready to reach out to everyone God
places on our path. All it takes is a little friendliness.

Prayer

Father, friendship is one of the things you offer us when we come into relationship with you. Show us how to be friendly to those around us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
