Wiser and Happier: Devotions From Time of Graceಮಾದರಿ
Happily Ever After: Till death us do part
There’s an old joke about a classroom blooper: the teacher asks, “What is the word to describe one man staying married to one woman?” A kid responds, “Monotony.” Ha!
A beautiful ceremony, two expensive rings, and a wedding license are not sufficient to keep people committed to each other. Even the great King David could not keep his eyes (and hands) off Bathsheba. God had the sordid details of David’s theft, adultery, lying, and murder written down so that we could learn from it. The momentary flash of excitement gave way to months and years of misery, and damaged many other people’s lives as well.
Jesus Himself taught that it was God’s original (and current) marriage intent that what He had joined together no one should separate. One man/one woman till death us do part is still His promise for a happy life. Proverbs 5:15 puts it like this: “Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well.”
