What if I’m the one?
In the scripture we read in Exodus, God is calling Moses to go back to Egypt to rescue His people from bondage. Moses has a hard time believing that God chose him to be the one to lead the Israelites out of Egypt; and he asks God over and over to send someone else. But God knew that He wanted Moses to lead them. God chose to use Moses’s weaknesses to make a powerful move. Moses had a terrible past, he was insecure, he had a stuttering problem, and he lacked self-control. On the outside, Moses was the least qualified person for God to use. But God knew the potential that Moses had on the inside. How often do we think of ourselves the same way? We think “I could never do that”, or “God can’t use me like that”, or “I could never stand up for that”; when actually God has been telling you that you are qualified! What opportunities are missed because fear or insecurity is holding you back from what God might be calling you to do?
In the scripture in John, Jesus and Peter are talking about Peter’s calling. As they are talking, Peter looks around and asks Jesus “what about John?”. Jesus replies that John’s calling isn’t Peter’s to worry about. He commands Peter to just follow. You might see your pastors, leaders, or friends leading people to Jesus and compare yourself to their work. But what they do for Jesus should not be a concern of yours. He called you to follow Him, and that means that you should listen to and obey what He has asked you to do. It also means that you should not compare yourself to what anyone is doing. The question today is “What if I’m the one?” The fact is, you are the one! We are all chosen by God to spread hope to the world. And we all get to do that in a unique way to bring Him glory.
Action Step: Write down a moment in your life when you’ve thought that you couldn’t do something that you know God asked you to do. Why did you feel like you couldn’t do it? If you had it to do over again, how would you have acted differently? Write a prayer asking God to help you seize the opportunities He’s given you to do what He’s called you to do.
