The Middle Eastern nation of Afghanistan reflects a deeply ingrained religious heritage, with over 99% of its populace adhering to Islam. With a population of 43,000,000 that is overwhelmingly Sunni Muslim, there are approximately seventy people groups, with the vast majority not yet reached by the Gospel due to severe penalties for apostasy and blasphemy of Islam. This is especially true after the withdrawal of United States troops from the nation in 2021 and the rapid seizure of governing control by the Taliban.

Still, Afghan Christian believers, who comprise less than .3% of the population, bravely remain steadfast to the faith. Worshipping discreetly, these brothers and sisters showcase the testimony of the enduring power of the Lord’s promises amid tumultuous times. Due to the efforts of international aid workers who face tremendous risk in the country and various online platforms, the Holy Spirit is building up His church and reaching searching hearts who don’t yet know Christ personally.

Prayer Points to Consider:

• Pray for an end to the current national conflict and for stability in the nation.
• For Christian leaders and workers, along with their families, who have remained or returned to the country since the Taliban’s takeover, asking for safety, encouragement, and resources.
• Pray that throughout the region, those who are searching for the true God would receive dreams, visions, and encounters with the Lord Jesus, recognizing Him as LORD.
• Pray for boldness and safety for the few believers within the country.
• Pray for the safety of girls and their rights to attend school and that a hunger stirs in all women to know the truth of God’s love and His desire to have a relationship with them.
• Pray for the tribes who have welcomed the Gospel that Biblical spiritual growth would increase exponentially.

Dear Lord Jesus...I speak Your Name over Afghanistan, understanding that You desire every person to know Your lavish grace, salvation, and transforming power. I pray for those whose hearts are questioning the reason for life’s meaning and purpose at this moment. I ask for the Holy Spirit’s gentle but firm leading for believers to walk in greater discernment and wisdom to recognize those Your Spirit is calling to Your side and for their supernatural protection as they engage those outside the faith. May Your Church grow exponentially in the coming months and years, knowing the vitality of a vibrant, life-altering, courageous walk with You and not mere religion. Once again, I seal this prayer in the authority of Your Name, Lord Jesus. Amen!
