Men of Selfless Service

DAY 4 OF 7

Using What You've Got

I remember the first time someone encouraged me to serve in my church, asking if I could help in the sound booth as an audio/video tech.

At first, I felt unsure. I had no experience doing that sort of thing, and I didn’t feel confident I had anything to offer.

But I gave it a try and showed up the following Sunday to get started. Little did I know that stepping into that role would open the door to other opportunities to serve and grow.

Over time, I realized that God was using those early experiences to shape me, teach me humility, and show me the value of being part of something bigger than myself.

Serving in the Church isn’t about having it all figured out or being perfect for the role. It’s about being willing to simply love and serve others.

In 1 Corinthians 12, the Apostle Paul tells us that every believer is a part of the Body of Christ, each with unique gifts from the Holy Spirit. These gifts aren’t for our own benefit. Instead, they’re for building up the Church and bringing glory to God.

When we step into service, no matter how small the role might seem, we’re contributing to the mission of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Maybe you’re gifted in hospitality, teaching, or technical skills. Perhaps you’re great with kids, enjoy singing or jamming on the bass guitar, or prefer helping behind the scenes. Or you could help cook pancakes and eggs at the monthly men’s breakfast. Whatever your gifts, talents, or abilities, they have a place in the Church.

Paul’s illustration of the Church as a “body” reminds us that every role is essential. “The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I have no need of you,’” Paul writes (1 Corinthians 12:21). Similarly, the Church can’t thrive without each member offering their gifts and talents. No task is unimportant, and all contribute to building God’s Kingdom.

If you’re unsure where to start, consider your interests and skills. Then, contact the leaders at your church and ask how you can best help. Trust me, churches are always looking for more people to volunteer!

Pray and ask God to guide you to a place where you can make a difference. Remember, even the smallest act of service, like clicking song lyric slides or stacking chairs, can have a lasting impact for His glory.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for giving me gifts to serve in Your church. Show me where I can contribute and help me be a man who serves with a joyful heart. Use my efforts to bless others and bring glory to Your Name. Amen.

Reflection: What gifts or skills has God given you that you can use to serve in your church? How can you take a step toward getting involved this week?

About this Plan

Men of Selfless Service

Over this week of devotionals, we will explore what it means to be men who live out the Bible’s call to selflessness and service. In a world that often glorifies self-promotion and personal comfort, Christ commands us to embrace a radically different way of life—one that looks outward, values others above ourselves, and reflects His heart for the broken and the forgotten.
