Forty Days in the Psalms

DAY 7 OF 40

"Arise, O Lord, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies; awake for me; you have appointed a judgment." (Psalm 7:6)

David has been accused. We’re not exactly sure who the enemy is here, but they are likely among Saul's followers. David feels the heat of false accusations. He is pursued. And what do you do when you believe you are right, and your accusers are wrong?

David’s response here is helpful. He gives judgment to God. He asks God to deal with them.

Justice on Earth is limited and not perfect. The bad guys get off the hook. The good guys don’t always seem to win. But Divine Justice? It is always wise and appropriate.

My judgment is biased. As hard as I try to be fair, I’m still biased toward my motives and goodness. My perspective is limited. I don’t know everything about myself, the world, or my perceived enemies.

On this side of Heaven, you will be misunderstood. Live long enough, and you will acquire some enemies. It’s unavoidable. What can we do? We practice what Jesus did and taught. We pray for our enemies. We hand the gavel of justice to God. We trust that in the end, God will do what is right.

RESPOND IN PRAYER:

Who would you consider to be your enemies? Name them before God and ask God to deal with them appropriately. Confess your own sin in the situation. Express your faith in God’s Goodness and Justice.

About this Plan

Forty Days in the Psalms

The Psalms were sung, prayed, and memorized by Jesus. They were a resource for Him and should be for us. While this Plan works best as a resource for Lent, it may be used in any season of life.
