Worldview Discernment

In today’s exploration of worldview discernment, we examine the importance of starting with a foundation rooted in a biblical worldview. There are essentially two paths for evaluating the world around us—one with God at the center and one without. As Christians, we hold to a grand, Christ-centered narrative that sees the world as God's creation, which has fallen into sin but is in the process of redemption through Jesus Christ. This biblical worldview provides a framework for discerning other worldviews, many of which might acknowledge aspects of truth but ultimately fall short of fully addressing the problem of sin and humanity’s need for redemption.

In contrast, worldviews without God often rely on human reason, science, or modern philosophies, which attempt to explain reality apart from the divine. However, as history has shown, these perspectives lead to instability and shifting foundations. Modernism sought to ground truth in science alone, and postmodernism deconstructed even that, leaving many with a worldview centered on personal truth and fleeting pleasures. Through discernment, we can recognize that every worldview is, at its core, a religious perspective, whether it acknowledges God or not. True discernment begins with embracing the hope and truth found in the Christian narrative, which provides a solid foundation for understanding the world and navigating the complexities of competing worldviews.

"Lord, we thank You for the gift of discernment and for revealing the truth of Your Word to us. Help us to keep You at the center of our worldview as we navigate the challenges and philosophies of the world. Grant us wisdom to recognize what is true and to stand firm in Your grand narrative of creation, redemption, and hope. May Your Holy Spirit guide us in all things, that we may be lights in a world that desperately needs Your truth. In Jesus' name, Amen."
