TheLionWithin.Us: Navigating AI Through a Biblical Lensಮಾದರಿ

Created in God’s Image
Everywhere you look, artificial intelligence (AI) is gaining momentum, making it worth considering how, if at all, Christians should engage with this evolving technology.
When the question first came to me, it was through a friend who believed any interaction with AI was demonic and should be avoided like the plague. On the other hand, a colleague shared that his pastor uses AI weekly to aid in sermon development. With such vastly opposing views, how can we proceed confidently, relying on something greater than any one individual's subjective opinion?
For me, turning to God’s Word is always the best place to begin, as it forces me to consider His ways—which, ten times out of ten, are better than mine. So far, I haven’t found a commandment that addresses AI directly—perhaps Moses forgot to jot that one down 🙂. But what I do see from the very beginning of Scripture is the unmistakable purpose for which we are all created. That purpose offers valuable insight when considered against the backdrop of AI.
Genesis reminds us that there isn’t an algorithm or machine, no matter how advanced, that can reflect the divine image that God uniquely instilled in each of us. That divine imprint belongs solely to His image-bearers, making it the least artificial reality that exists. The key difference, as far as I can tell, is that AI perceives data and makes assessments based on programming, whereas humans assess life through the lens of God’s Word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
AI may help us solve problems, streamline our work, and challenge our perceptions of creativity, but it can never replicate the divine purpose or relational essence that God has woven into humanity. Only we can model grace and redemption in a world that desperately needs both. At the end of the day, how we show up in the world matters as we reflect God's character through love, creativity, wisdom, and justice. Let this truth guide your approach to technology—not with fear or blind acceptance, but with discernment and confidence grounded in God’s Word.
